MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon reveal the latest footwear drop from a new series in their ongoing collaboration; a celebration of a shared ethos offering unconventional perspectives on progressive and technically advanced designs.
Debuting as part of MM6 Maison Margiela’s AW collection, the XT-MARY J MM6 MAISON MARGIELA — an unabashedly kawaii spin on the classic Salomon XT-4 trail running shoe — melds the irreverent design perspective of the MM6 studio with Salomon’s technical expertise, contrasting the shoe’s robust sole with a delicate and intricate upper construction. Breaking with a purely performative function, this new silhouette opens deep towards the toes and closes with a single, thin Velcro strap, opening a window onto a new, transversal universe.
The All-Gender shoe is offered in two polar colorways. A vivid version sports bold shocking pink and acid yellow highlights on a chunky light sole, its dégradé upper flushing from aqua green to terracotta orange with the Salomon logo flashing like sponsors on a race car.
On the opposite spectrum, an all-black version plays on the House’s signature use of monochrome to sublimate delicate details and subtly reveal the shoe’s different layers using tonal variations of asphalt and soft clay.
